On October 30, 2024, the Mini Theater of Isabela State University (ISU) Roxas Campus transformed into a learning hub as CCJE students and faculty gathered for the Cybersecurity Awareness Seminar.
The event emphasized the importance of understanding cybersecurity in an increasingly digital world. With a focus on providing essential strategies to safeguard digital well-being, the seminar was organized to reinforce United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on quality education and SDG 16, which advocates for peace, justice, and strong institutions.
ARD Victor V. Lorenzo, Assistant Regional Director of the NBI Cagayan Valley Regional Office discussions centered on actionable insights into protecting personal and institutional digital footprints, resonating deeply with the attending CCJE students, including those in BS Criminology and BS Law Enforcement Administration. The session underscored the significance of cybersecurity not only as a technical issue but as a component of responsible citizenship, aligning with SDG 16’s goals of fostering resilient institutions. The seminar provided a rare, interactive platform where students, faculty, and Student Body Organization (SBO) officers could engage in discussions about prevailing cybersecurity challenges. With hands-on insights and real-world scenarios, Sir Lorenzo encouraged students to think critically and proactively about online safety, privacy, and the integrity of information—key aspects of SDG 16.
Concluding the seminar, Assistant Professor Charibel Sarte, Director of Academic Affairs, emphasized the broader impact of cybersecurity awareness, not only within the university but also in society. Her words captured the event’s larger mission: educating for a sustainable and safer future.
The Cybersecurity Awareness Seminar left a lasting impression, equipping CCJE’s graduating students with tools to navigate the digital age responsibly.
Events like these underscore ISU’s commitment to quality education and the empowerment of future leaders in building safer, stronger communities—echoing the spirit of SDG 4 and SDG 16.
