With the theme “UNITED for a VAW-free Philippines: VAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras!”, Isabela State University Roxas (ISU Roxas) marked the commencement of the 2024 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) on November 25, 2024. The event, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) , SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), gathered stakeholders in a unified effort to eliminate violence against women and create safer spaces for all.

The opening ceremony was graced by campus officials, faculty and staff , and students, all united by a shared commitment to end violence against women. The event featured a keynote address from a gender equality advocate, who emphasized the importance of recognizing violence against women as a systemic issue requiring collective effort.

The campaign’s activities are intricately linked to achieving the SDGs, particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). By addressing the systemic roots of violence against women, the campaign contributes to building a more equitable and peaceful society.

ISU Roxas’ campaign serves as a powerful reminder that achieving a violence-free world is essential to sustainable development. By empowering women and girls, the initiative not only addresses immediate challenges but also lays the groundwork for long-term societal transformation.

As the 18-day campaign unfolds, the university community’s commitment to action will serve as an inspiring example for others to follow.
