On August 14, 2024, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 02 awarded 150,000 pesos to the Saplot Industry Matusalem at Isabela State University (ISU) Roxas Campus. This grant is designated for the purchase of equipment and revolving funds. The Saplot Industry at ISU Roxas is a sustainable livelihood program that was established in partnerhip with the Bahaginan sa Roxas Incorporated since 2019 with Research & Development Extension Training Services then under Dr. Janet P. Cunanan as the Unit Director and is operated and managed to support the community through the crafting of tailored products. This external support is a testament to ISUR’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, under the leadership of Campus Administrator Dr. Rosalyn L. Bautista.

The Livelihood Program aligns with several SDGs: SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). It promotes sustainable livelihood opportunities that help individuals support their families and contribute to building sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11).

The officers of the Saplot Industry, led by their president Ms. Mercelita M. Rivera, along with other members, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to DSWD and ISU Roxas for their support and celebrated this significant milestone for the industry.

This grant exemplifies the effective partnership between government agencies and educational institutions, showcasing a collective effort to address key social and economic challenges. The external support provided will greatly enhance the program’s capacity to create lasting positive impacts, driving progress towards a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
