On August 16, 2024, Isabela State University – Roxas Campus conducted a training workshop on crafting research and extension project proposals at the T. Woodward Conference Hall. The workshop aimed to equip faculty members of the campus with the skills to develop research and extension proposals aligned with current issues and funding requirements.

Dr. Rosalyn L. Bautista, Campus Administrator, discussed the R&D/E agenda of the university and external funding agencies, highlighting strategies for securing funding from institutions like DOST, DA, and CHED. Dr. Janet P. Cunanan, Campus Director for R&D and KTM, focused on the process of structuring proposals that meet institutional and external funding criteria. Dr. Januard D. Dagdag, Campus Director for Extension and Training Services, introduced AI tools to streamline the proposal development process and discussed ethical considerations in using AI for research, including tips to publish in JC3-recognized journals.

Following the lectures, participants engaged in hands-on workshops where they worked collaboratively to develop R&D/E proposals. These proposals were then presented to the resource speakers for critique. The speakers provided constructive feedback, offering suggestions to improve the quality and viability of each proposal. Additionally, experienced participants contributed their insights, further enriching the discussion and refining the proposals.

This training supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), by enhancing the research and extension capabilities of the academic community.
