Isabela State University-Roxas Campus (ISUR), led by Dr. Rosalyn L. Bautista, the campus administrator, has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Roxas, Isabela. The agreement involves collaboration with the Rural Health Unit (RHU), under the leadership of Municipal Mayor Hon. Jonathan Jose C. Calderon, and was finalized today, March 13, 2024, at the Mayor’s Office, Municipal Hall, Roxas, Isabela.
The MOA aims to enhance the healthcare services provided by the Medical and Dental Unit of the Office of Student Affairs and Services of the campus, enabling close monitoring of the health of all ISU employees and the entire student body.
Under the MOA, the ISUR shall conduct a regular health assessment, observe direct and extensive monitoring to the health conditions, and provide first aid treatment and health teachings prior to the referral for all employees and students. Meanwhile, LGU-RHU will offer medical consultations, prescribe medication, perform diagnostic and laboratory procedures at a reasonable cost, and issue medical certificates to ISUR’s students and employees. Additionally, they will issue sanitary permits to food providers/handlers and conduct seminars and lectures on health and safety.
Both parties will collaborate on planning related activities and maintain regular coordination. The agreement takes effect immediately.”
Hon. Calderon strongly agrees on the collaboration with ISUR, especially as screening and health evaluation are necessary nowadays. “Actually, iyong sinasabi ko nga po rito, it’s good that we are screening bigla nalang bubulagta iyong tao, ang babata o pabata na nang pabata”, he said.
Dr. Evangeline Simon, head of the medical unit said, “It will be very helpful for our students that they can avail of a reasonable amount of laboratory and medical exams “. She extends her thanks to Hon. Calderon for continually sharing his blessings and providing unwavering support to the ISU Roxas family. Besides the signing of the agreement, this also served as an opportunity for a brief roundtable discussion about the challenges learners face in education. Hon. Calderon recalled his discussion with Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino, the university president, regarding the possibility of opening a ladderized program for Agriculture. Dr. Bautista then happily updated the mayor on the approval of the said program during the recently concluded University Academic Council meeting.
The initiatives of the ISU Roxas Medical and Dental Unit represent a significant milestone in achieving Sustainable Development Goals No. 3 and 17 of the institution, which focus on Good Health and Well-being, and Partnership for the Goals.
