“The presence of the state-of-the-art facilities has the potential to boost students’ enthusiasm for learning and aid faculty in effectively imparting knowledge. The success of the teaching and learning process, as well as the efficacy and efficiency of school activities, is influenced by the quality of the infrastructure and amenities”, these are the words of Mr. Percival Domingo, an instructor of Isabela State University Roxas Campus during his interview.
In his class on Business Incubation, Implementation, Management, and Entrepreneurship under the School of Agriculture and Agribusiness, he utilizes the new food processing laboratory to facilitate instruction. He emphasized the importance of food processing in agriculture and food security. Aligned with the course syllabus, the activity aims to teach students how to utilize agricultural resources, process them, and add value to ensure a steady and adequate food supply. “Furthermore, some BSAB students utilize agricultural commodities, particularly those not currently used in food processing, for product development as part of their research,” he said.
In addition, the activity aligns with the institution’s Sustainable Development Goals No. 2, 4, and 12, focusing on Quality Education, Zero Hunger, and Responsible Consumption and Production. Through such activities, students learn various food processing techniques and present newly created items to the community. Moreover, the objectives of this activity include the development of both conventional and novel food items, enhancement of nutritional qualities through fortification, extension of product shelf life, and ensuring a safe and secure food supply.
The state-of-the-art facilities and equipment used to facilitate learning represent a transformation in campus innovation and infrastructure, marking a significant step toward the institution’s goal of becoming a smart campus.
