Jasper Talledo Alimpipinig, a graduating BSEd mathematics student from the College of Education at Isabela State University – Roxas Campus, won first place in the higher education category for the best undergraduate research paper during the University Search for Best Graduate and Undergraduate Research, held on July 22, 2024, at ISU – Angadanan Campus.

Mr. Alimpipinig is one of the research advisees of Dr. Januard D. Dagdag, the Director for Extension and Training Services at ISU – Roxas and a mathematics teacher educator with numerous research publications. Mr. Alimpipinig is the second advisee of Dr. Dagdag to win this competition at the university level, following Ms. Nicole A. Calimag, who won in 2022.

Mr. Alimpipinig’s research, “Development and Validation of Mathematics Cultural Sensitivity Scale,” aimed to create and validate a scale for measuring mathematics cultural sensitivity (MCS) in education through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The developed scale can be used to measure and enhance inclusion and equity in mathematics education. The study supports the creation of learning environments that respect and integrate diverse cultural perspectives, leading to improved student engagement, understanding, and achievement. His research contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

Mr. Alimpipinig’s paper represented the Cauayan Cluster, while the other papers came from the Cabagan, Ilagan, and Echague Clusters. Notably, Mr. Alimpipinig’s paper was the only solely authored entry in this level and category, as thesis writing at ISU-Roxas College of Education is traditionally conducted individually to ensure that its graduates are well-versed in research.

The achievement of Mr. Alimpipinig highlights the supportive learning and research environment at ISU-Roxas. The collective efforts and dedication of the university and campus leaders and the campus’ faculty members and non-teaching staff have created an environment where students are empowered to achieve outstanding success and make significant contributions to their fields.
