In line with its commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and environmental stewardship, Isabela State University – Roxas Campus continues to strengthen agricultural advancement through the establishment of a Small-Scale Composting Facility (SSCF) worth ₱600,000.

The project was successfully realized through the collaborative efforts of the faculty members of the School of Agriculture and Agribusiness (SAA), together with the support and leadership of former Campus Administrator Prof. Emerson V. Barcellano and the current Campus Administrator, Atty. Romano P. Cammayo.

The SSCF was secured through a grant from the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) National Office through the dedicated initiative and efforts of Dr. Jerry S. Casino Jr. This milestone reflects the university’s strong commitment to agricultural innovation, sustainable practices, and community development.

The facility aims to promote proper waste management and support the production of organic fertilizer within the campus and nearby communities. Through this initiative, ISU Roxas seeks to empower farmers, students, and stakeholders with sustainable technologies that contribute to environmental protection and improved agricultural productivity.

The activity was also attended and supported by representatives from the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), Department of Agriculture Region II, and partner suppliers namely: Kristel M. Bagaua of BSWM National, Arrianna Faye D. Tubiera and Ariane Mae L. Bautista of BSWM Region II, Marco Julius C. Bandulin of DA Region II, and suppliers John Loyd M. Pagaduan and Jomarie Tresteza. Their support and participation further strengthened collaborative efforts toward promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental responsibility in the community.

This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 15: Life on Land. Likewise, the project aligns with ISU’s SMARTGREEN framework by promoting green technologies, resilient agricultural systems, and environmentally responsive extension initiatives. It also contributes to the university’s commitment to the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) by advancing innovative and socially responsive programs that create positive impacts in communities.

Through projects such as the SSCF, ISU Roxas remains steadfast in its mission of advancing quality education, research, extension, and innovation toward building resilient, empowered, and sustainable communities.
