The Isabela State University – Roxas Campus (ISU Roxas) successfully conducted an unannounced earthquake drill as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and campus safety. The activity aimed to test the readiness of students, faculty, and staff in responding to emergencies without prior notice, ensuring that everyone can act promptly and responsibly during real-life situations.
At exactly 9:00, the alarm sounded across the campus, signaling the start of the simulation. Students and personnel immediately followed the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure before calmly evacuating to their designated open areas.
This initiative is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly: SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff through preventive measures and emergency preparedness.
ln addition, this also highlighted SDG 4: Quality Education, by integrating disaster risk education and awareness into campus activities, fostering a culture of safety and resilience among learners.
Further, the said drill also encapsulates SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by promoting disaster-resilient institutions and contributing to broader community preparedness and sustainability and SDG 13: Climate Action, by encouraging proactive adaptation and preparedness strategies in the face of climate-related and geological hazards.
Through this earthquake drill, ISU Roxas reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe learning environment and nurturing responsible, disaster-aware citizens. The campus continues to champion not only academic excellence but also sustainability and resilience—key components of building a safer and more sustainable future for all.
