March 17, 2025 – In a vibrant celebration of National Women’s Month, the Isabela State University-Roxas Campus (ISUR) has successfully hosted a series of empowering events under the theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.” Spearheaded by Campus Administrator Dr. Rosalyn L. Baustista and the PMISGAD Office led by Asst. Prof. Joey C. Cereno, the activities aimed to honor the achievements of women throughout history while promoting their contributions across various fields.

The day kicked off with a spirited 5K fun run, where participants gathered at dawn to warm up before the race commenced at 7:00 AM. The event not only encouraged physical fitness but also fostered a sense of community among women from diverse backgrounds. Following the run, the campus hosted an Art Painting Exhibition at Xentro Mall, Roxas, starting at 8:00 AM. This interactive workshop allowed attendees to explore their creativity through guided painting sessions. Participants were encouraged to express their stories and emotions through art, creating a supportive environment that empowered women artists and engaged the community. At 2:00 PM, the “Defend Yourself” Women’s Self-Defense Tournament took place at Xentro Mall’s Ground Floor. This event showcased competitors from various backgrounds demonstrating essential self-defense skills across different martial arts disciplines. The tournament emphasized the importance of physical and mental resilience, equipping women with the confidence to protect themselves.

Simultaneously, the Strong Women Obstacle Challenge, featuring tire flips, took place at the ISUR Gymnasium. Teams of women participated in this physically demanding event, pushing their limits and embracing their strength while fostering camaraderie among participants.

The events attracted a diverse group of participants, including women from different Government Agencies, Non-government Organizations, Academic Institutions, and local advocates, including students from the Municipality of Roxas. Facilitators from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) played a crucial role in organizing the sports and physical activities, while GAD advocates led the painting exhibition.

Safety was a top priority, with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Roxas on-site to ensure the well-being of all participants, ready to address any health concerns that might arise.

The culmination and recognition program for the winners of these events will take place on March 24, 2025, at the Roxas Arts, Culture, and Sports Complex, celebrating the achievements of all participants. These activities represent more than just a celebration; they are part of a broader movement aimed at uplifting women and recognizing their contributions in the arts, personal safety, and physical strength. By participating in these events, women are not only claiming their space but also inspiring future generations to embrace their power.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), these events support SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The emphasis on self-defense and empowerment through sports encourages a culture of peace and safety for women, strengthening institutions that protect rights and promote justice. As National Women’s Month continues, the ISUR community stands united in celebrating the strength, resilience, and creativity of women, paving the way for a brighter future in the New Philippines.
