The Isabela State University – Roxas Campus (ISU Roxas) formally joined the Local Government Unit of Roxas in the Kick-Off Program of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC) held today at the Roxas Municipal Grounds. The event marked the campus’ continued support in championing women’s rights and strengthening community-wide advocacy for a safe and violence-free society.
This initiative advances key Sustainable Development Goals:
👉 SDG 5: Gender Equality – Eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls.
👉 SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Strengthening collaboration among institutions and communities.
👉 SDG 2: Zero Hunger – Promoting inclusive access to food in public and community events.
Representatives from ISU Roxas, led by Campus Administrator Dr. Emerson Barcellano and other directors, participated in the opening ceremony organized by the LGU as part of the nationwide campaign observed annually from November 25 to December 12. This year’s theme, “UNITE for a VAW-Free Philippines,” emphasizes the collective responsibility of institutions in safeguarding women’s rights.
Participants, including faculty, staff, and students, joined the pledge of commitment, affirming their shared responsibility to foster respect, equality, and safety within the academic and local community. ISU Roxas also reaffirmed its essential role in raising awareness among the youth and integrating gender-sensitivity initiatives into campus programs and outreach efforts.
Throughout the event, agencies such as the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) provided discussions on legal protections, support services, and reporting mechanisms available to victims of abuse. The Local Government Unit of Roxas also generously sponsored free food—not only for the attendees but for all people who came to the event and joined the queue—ensuring inclusivity and community support. This act reflects the values of SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by promoting shared resources and collaborative engagement.
ISU Roxas’ participation underscored its strong partnership with LGU Roxas in advancing meaningful gender advocacy efforts. The university committed to continued involvement in initiatives that strengthen gender equality, create safe spaces for students, and enhance community collaboration.
