Quezon, Isabela – In a proactive move to stay informed about the ISU Quezon Extension, a proposal originating from the LGU Quezon that began in 2018 under the leadership of then-Mayor (now Vice Mayor) Jimmy S. Gamazon, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Quezon, Isabela, invited representatives from Isabela State University (ISU) Roxas Campus to a recent Sanguniang Bayan session. The primary agenda was to discuss the progress of the ISU Quezon Extension and its potential to enhance educational access within the community, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
Prof. Dr. Emerson V. Barcellano, Campus Administrator of ISU Roxas, along with Dr. Bladyner O. Da Jose, Dr. Jerry S. Casino, and Dr. Audelon R. Benito, attended the session to discuss the progress of the ISU Quezon Extension proposal. While Prof. Barcellano outlined the proposal’s development, the officials of LGU Quezon clearly understand the vital role the extension would play in local progress contributing to both SDG 4 and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by providing accessible education that can lead to better employment opportunities.
Vice Mayor Gamazon and other officials demonstrated a clear understanding that bringing education closer to the citizens directly contributes to the progress of Quezon. They recognize that the extension will cater to more students seeking higher education, making college education more accessible. This, in turn, is expected to boost the town’s development in terms of employment, business, and overall quality of life, directly supporting SDG 8.
During a courtesy call, Mayor Daryl G. Gascon discussed ongoing projects and programs for Quezon while inquiring about the progress of the ISU Quezon Extension proposal. Mayor Gascon reiterated his commitment to supporting the extension, recognizing its significance in providing accessible education to the residents of Quezon and nearby areas, given that Quezon, Isabela, serves as a gateway to other regions of the country.
The local government of Quezon views the ISU Quezon Extension as a cornerstone of their development strategy. By prioritizing accessible and free college education, they aim to empower local residents, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the overall well-being of the community.
