On October 12, 2026, Isabela State University–Roxas Campus conducted the Orientation on Turnitin and Google Workspace with Gemini and Its AI-Powered Features at the ISU Roxas Library, beginning at 8:00 AM. Facilitated by University IT Officer Mr. Alfred Luke Espiritu, the activity aimed to strengthen the digital competencies of students, faculty, and staff in promoting academic integrity, improving productivity, and maximizing the responsible use of digital technologies in academic and administrative activities.

The session opened with an overview of Turnitin, highlighting its role in promoting academic honesty, identifying text similarities, and providing constructive feedback on written outputs. Participants learned how to submit academic papers properly and interpret similarity reports to support originality, responsible citation, and ethical academic writing.

The discussion then explored Google Workspace, demonstrating how applications such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive facilitate collaboration, document management, information sharing, and efficient workflows. The orientation also introduced Gemini and its AI-powered features, showcasing their potential to assist with research, drafting, organization, and other academic tasks. Throughout the session, the importance of responsible AI use was emphasized, encouraging participants to preserve originality, exercise critical thinking, verify AI-generated information, and remain accountable for their work.

Beyond digital skills development, the activity reflects the university’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It directly supports SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly Target 4.4, by strengthening relevant digital and technological competencies. It also advances SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through the adoption of innovative digital tools, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, by reinforcing academic integrity, ethical conduct, and accountability within the academic community.

Furthermore, the orientation contributes to the Smart and Green University initiative of ISU Roxas Campus by promoting technology-enabled collaboration, digital transformation, and more efficient electronic document management. These practices can also support SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production when applied to reduce unnecessary printing and paper consumption through paperless academic workflows.

The event concluded with an open forum, providing participants with the opportunity to raise questions, clarify concerns, and deepen their understanding of the featured platforms. Overall, the orientation marked a meaningful step toward building a digitally empowered, ethically responsible, and innovation-driven academic community at ISU Roxas Campus.

Through initiatives such as this, ISU Roxas continues to advance quality education, responsible technological innovation, and sustainable institutional practices in support of its commitment to academic excellence and a smarter, greener university.
