The Isabela State University (ISU) Roxas Campus is on the brink of a transformative leap in its infrastructure development, with two major construction projects nearing completion. These initiatives are not only set to enhance the campus facilities but are also meticulously aligned with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Gender and Development (GAD) principles.
At the forefront of this development is the Multipurpose Building Phase 1, a project funded by Honorable Faustino Michael Carlos T. Dy III, the representative of the 5th District of Isabela. Spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Isabela 2nd Engineering District, construction commenced on October 1, 2024, and as of March 31, 2025, the building is reported to be 63% complete. Once operational, this facility will significantly enhance the campus’s capacity to host a variety of academic and extracurricular activities, benefiting both students and faculty.
The Multipurpose Building is designed to include essential facilities such as offices, a child-minding area, a lactation room, a personnel lounge, and a fitness room. This thoughtful design fosters a more inclusive and supportive environment for university employees, students, and their families. The initiative directly contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by expanding access to quality learning environments, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through sustainable infrastructure development, and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by promoting family-friendly facilities on campus.
In tandem with the Multipurpose Building, the campus is also developing a Student Lounge, which will feature an office for the Supreme Student Council (SSC). Funded through the campus’s Student Development Fund, construction began on February 5, 2025, and the project has already reached 66% completion. This new lounge will provide students with a dedicated space for study, relaxation, and engagement in campus activities, thereby promoting inclusivity and student empowerment. This initiative aligns with SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), ensuring that the facility is accessible and inclusive for all students, regardless of gender or ability.
Under the leadership of Campus Administrator Dr. Rosalyn L. Bautista, the administration is committed to implementing the enhanced Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (LUDIP) of the campus, which aligns with the Philippine Development Plan (Ambisyon Natin 2040). This commitment underscores the university’s dedication to improving campus facilities and creating a conducive learning environment while integrating GAD principles into development planning.
With the steady progress of these projects, the ISU Roxas Campus is poised to offer enhanced services and improved infrastructure in the coming months. This development not only aims to foster an inclusive and sustainable academic community but also reflects the university’s commitment to the global agenda of sustainable development and gender equality. As these projects near completion, the ISU Roxas Campus stands as a beacon of progress, ready to empower its students and faculty for a brighter future.
