ROXAS, Isabela – July 28, 2026 – Isabela State University (ISU) Roxas Campus officially marked the beginning of its ₱3-million Smart Greenhouse Project through a ceremonial groundbreaking held at the ISU Roxas AgriTech. The project is another significant step in the University’s commitment to promoting modern, sustainable, and technology-driven agriculture.

The Smart Greenhouse Project is funded by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) through the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP). Established under Department of Agriculture Administrative Order No. 03, Series of 2022, the program aims to strengthen food security, encourage sustainable farming practices, and support communities through innovative agricultural technologies.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Atty. Romano P. Cammayo, Campus Administrator, together with Dr. Emerson V. Barcellano, former Campus Administrator; Dr. Jerry S. Casino, Chairperson of the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Program; faculty members, staff, students of the School of Agriculture and Agribusiness (SAA), and representatives from the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI).

The project was made possible through the initiative of Dr. Emerson V. Barcellano, Dr. Jerry S. Casino, and the collective efforts of the School of Agriculture and Agribusiness in securing support for this important development.

Once completed, the Smart Greenhouse will serve as a learning and research facility where students can gain hands-on experience with modern farming technologies. It will also support faculty and student research, strengthen community extension programs, and promote sustainable farming practices that contribute to improved food production and food security.

More than just a new facility, the Smart Greenhouse reflects ISU Roxas’ dedication to providing quality education, advancing agricultural innovation, and building stronger partnerships that benefit both the University and the communities it serves. Through projects like this, ISU Roxas continues to support sustainable development while preparing future agricultural professionals to meet the challenges of a changing world.
