The Isabela State University Roxas Campus, in collaboration with the National Service Training Program (NSTP), successfully conducted a Drug Education seminar on September 14, 2023, at the ISUR Gymnasium in Matusalem, Roxas, Isabela. The event was part of the university’s ongoing commitment to addressing pressing social issues through educational programs.

The program started at 8:00 AM with an invocation and hymns presented through an audiovisual presentation (AVP). Dr. Arvin R. Palapus, NSTP Director, opened the event with welcoming remarks, emphasizing the importance of drug awareness in today’s society. This was followed by an introduction of the resource speaker by Dr. Audelon R. Benito, NSTP Implementer.

A key component of the event was “Module II: Drug Education”, which covered the following crucial topics:

  • General Orientation on Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
  • An in-depth discussion on the nature of drugs, the drug menace, the national drug situation, controlled substances, and other pertinent laws.
  • The role of the youth in drug detection and prevention, emphasizing how young people can contribute to anti-drug efforts.
  • The government’s response to the drug problem, highlighting the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and its uniform anti-drug preventive education programs in coordination with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and barangay officials.

The seminar’s highlight was a comprehensive discussion led by Pastor Victor G. Dungo, the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) Focal Person. His presentation covered the dangers of drug addiction and the legal consequences, while also promoting preventive measures to keep students’ drug-free.

An open forum allowed participants to engage with the speaker, raising important questions on drug prevention and rehabilitation. Following this, certificates of appreciation were awarded to Pastor Dungo and other key contributors.
