The SAFE (Students Against Fatal Effects) Campus Drug Prevention and Awareness Symposium was held on October 20, 2026, at the ISU–Roxas Gymnasium, bringing together students, faculty, and staff from both the new and old campus sites. The activity reinforced the university’s commitment to protecting student welfare and fostering a safe, healthy, and drug-free learning environment.
Atty. Romano P. Cammayo, DPA, Campus Administrator, formally opened the event with a warm welcome, emphasizing the university’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of every student and promoting a campus culture grounded in discipline, responsibility, and informed decision-making.

Pastor Vic Dungo delivered an inspiring message on drug prevention, highlighting the importance of spiritual foundation, strong moral values, and healthy relationships as protective factors against substance abuse. He encouraged students to recognize their God-given purpose, surround themselves with positive influences, and seek guidance when facing challenges, reminding them that choosing to stay away from drugs is a step toward a meaningful and productive future.
Dir. III Gil Cesario P. Castro, PDEA Regional Director, shared valuable insights into the collective responsibility of individuals, institutions, and communities in combating drug abuse. The program continued with two educational sessions. Mr. Dennis M. Acosta discussed the different types of drugs and their harmful medical and neurological effects on physical and mental health, while Mr. Maynard B. Agleham explained the legal consequences of drug-related offenses and the relevant provisions of anti-drug laws.
An open forum followed, providing participants with an opportunity to ask questions, express concerns, and share perspectives on drug prevention and awareness. The symposium concluded with closing remarks from Jane C. Caliboso, EdD, Director of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS).
Beyond raising awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, the activity supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by promoting preventive education and healthier lifestyle choices, and SDG 4: Quality Education, by helping create a safe and supportive environment conducive to learning and student development. It also contributes to SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions through increased awareness of the legal implications of drug-related offenses and the importance of shared responsibility in maintaining safe communities.
The symposium likewise advances the university’s Smart Green University commitment by recognizing that sustainability encompasses not only environmental stewardship but also the well-being, safety, and responsible development of the campus community. Through initiatives that promote health awareness, informed decision-making, and a supportive learning environment, ISU–Roxas continues to strengthen its commitment to holistic student development and sustainable campus life.
Overall, the SAFE Symposium reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among the university, government agencies, community leaders, and students in preventing substance abuse. Through continued education, awareness, and collective action, ISU–Roxas remains committed to building a responsible, resilient, and drug-free campus community.
