In response to the “Walang Plastikan sa Kampus” (Zero Plastic) policy, authored by the Office of the Student Affairs and Services Director, Dr. Jane C. Caliboso, and supported by the Campus Administrator, Dr. Rosalyn L. Bautista, of Isabela State University Roxas (ISUR) Campus, the College of Education Student Body Organization (CEd-SBO) has launched a Free Water Refilling initiative, starting February 20, 2025.
The program aims to provide free access to drinking water for CEd students by encouraging them to refill their tumblers instead of purchasing bottled water, which contributes to plastic waste on campus.
Alongside the implementation of the Zero Plastic policy, the CEd-SBO has also introduced another project by distributing trash bins in designated food areas throughout the campus. These bins provide students with proper waste disposal options, as eating inside classrooms is no longer permitted, and trash bins have been removed from classrooms and hallways to reduce excessive waste accumulation.
This initiative promotes discipline in waste management among students, faculty, and staff while contributing to global environmental efforts. It also aligns with the university’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly good health and well-being (SDG 3) by keeping students hydrated and reducing pollution, clean water and sanitation (SDG 6) by encouraging sustainable water consumption, climate action (SDG 13) by minimizing plastic waste, and life on land (SDG 15) by addressing excessive waste and promoting ecological sustainability.
The ISUR community continues to take steps toward a greener, more sustainable campus, reinforcing its role in tackling environmental challenges through student-led initiatives.
